Commissioning of Nyitawuta Clinic

On October 14, 2024, the Nyitawuta Clinic was officially commissioned. This collaborative effort between HOCAP and the Westminster Presbyterian Church aims to provide much-needed medical care to the people of Nyitawuta.

The clinic popularly known as the Mama Alice Clinic was named after a dedicated supporter of HOCAP, the late Rev. Alice Kyei offers needed medical care directly to the Nyitawuta community and its environs, eliminating long journeys for basic and maternal healthcare services. The commissioning ceremony was marked by an atmosphere of drumming, singing and dancing displayed by the community to welcome guests and also to express their excitement.

Present at the commissioning were:

  • Mrs. Barbara Asempa: Director of HOCAP
  • Two HOCAP Staffs
  • Four Partners from WPC
  • Representative from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG)-Head Office
  • Representatives from Christian Health Association of Ghana-CHAG
  • Representative from PCG-Redemption Congregation, Tema
  • Dignitaries from Akatsi North District.
  • Chiefs of Nyitawuta Community
  • Community members of Nyitawuta

HOCAP’s Director, Rev. Mrs. Barbara Asempa in her speech at the occasion highlighted the organization’s decade-long presence in Nyitawuta, where they have implemented numerous development projects such as the construction of toilet facility, irrigation dam, recreational park for learning activities, solar lights installed at the recreational park, training teenage mothers in sewing, training individuals in baking and bee-keeping, constructing a gari processing facility with cassava grater, presser and smokeless stove for the women in Nyitawuta, clinic construction and others. She announced HOCAP’s plans to exit the community as they reach out to another community to extend their help. However, she ensured continued support for Nyitawuta.

To aid in education, the WPC generously donated educational supplies to the Nyitawuta school and to further enhance the school’s resources, laptops were gifted to two teachers from Nyitawuta school. Again, to support the clinic’s vital healthcare services, medical supplies were donated to the clinic.

The Chief of Nyitawuta and community members expressed their gratitude to Rev. Mrs. Barbara Asempa for HOCAP’s immerse contributions to the community. As a token of their appreciation, they presented her with a citation, kente cloth, a bead necklace and bracelets crafted with traditional beads and a traditional slipper called the Ahenima.

 Also, the community showed their gratitude to the WPC representatives with a crafted traditional bead necklaces and bracelets.

The opening of the Mama Alice Clinic is a big step forward for the Nyitawuta community. It means better access to healthcare, which will lead to a healthier and more prosperous future for everyone.
